Mouthwash Drunks!!

You are never going to believe this!! Well...if you have a three year old you might. A few nights ago, Brody and I went through our usual routine of putting the kids to bed (you know the whole bathroom, teeth, leave your sister alone, get in your bed, if I have to tell you one more time, quit crying or I will give you something to cry about routine). Anyway, after about an hour of repeatedly putting Mylee to bed we thought she was asleep and we were home free. We must have been asleep for at least an hour and 45 minutes when Brody woke me up and asked, "Is that the girls?" I listened and could hear my 3 year old and my 19 month old laughing. So, I went upstairs to investigate. Upon entering their room I was hit with the strongest minty smell I have ever smelled. It was like the whole room was coated in Vik's vapor rub or something. Anyway, as I looked inside their room I saw a naked 3 year old climbing into her sister's crib. My 19 month old was holding an open bottle of mouthwash and giggling her little head off. I was shocked!! I walked into the room and proceeded to say to both of the girls, "Did you drink that? Let me smell your breath!" That statement was something I had never wanted to say to them but nonetheless, at the ripe old age of 3 and 19 months I was forced to ask the question. Sure enough, they had both been tippin back on mouthwash. When I called poison control the lady told me to give them a protein snack and a sugary drink...I thought GREAT lets reward them with a snack for getting plastered while I was sleeping. After cleaning them off and giving them their drink and snack I had to strip the baby's crib and replace it with clean bedding. By this time the girls were exhausted and went right to sleep but I had to wait for poison control to call me back in an hour to check up on the little criminals before I could go to bed. I have no idea how much they ingested. The bottle said the mouthwash only contained 15% alcohol and the bottle was almost empty. What is the alcohol to weight ratio for kids? Yeah, if you know the answer to that than you've got problems! Anyway, moral of this story...first, make sure your mouthwash is put on the highest shelf and out of sight, second, don't just assume your children are asleep because it is quiet upstairs, and last, make sure you LAUGH YOUR HEAD OFF WHEN THE FRUSTRATION AND WORRY HAS FINALLY DISSIPATED AND YOU CAN SEE THE SITUATION FOR THE COMICAL ONE THAT IT TRULY WAS!!
